MATT PHILLIPS

OPERATING PARTNER

Son of a home economics teacher, Matt discovered the culinary arts at a young age. Growing up in Olds, AB, and then moving to Camrose as a teenager, he took great pride learning to cook both from a class in Home Economics, as well as at home. Moving to Edmonton at the age of 19, he worked towards a political science degree at the University of Alberta, before he discovered his passion for cooking. Matt developed a passion for hip hop, jazz, classic rock, and drum and bass music, constantly playing some form of great tunes, and enjoying every concert, show, and event he could attend.

Matt took a job washing dishes at Joey Tomatoes on Jasper Avenue, and quickly rose through the ranks, becoming Sous Chef within eight months of full time employment. His rise to the top continued, as within four years he assumed the Head Chef position at the Sherwood Park location, the youngest chef in Joey Tomatoes history at that point. He remained there for two years, developing a reputation for very high standards, and excellent profitability.

After leaving Joey Tomatoes, Matt worked his way through kitchens in Edmonton, most recently as the Executive Chef of LUX Steakhouse + Bar. It was here he discovered his passion for simple food elevated, and he looks forward to sharing that passion with Edmonton.
